About the organization

A cooperative, not a startup.

Forged Lucidity is a member-owned cooperative research organization. It builds Eous, an openly-AI, verification-first thinking partner with a person on the top rung, and it pursues a separate, openly-held research program in the foundations of consciousness. The two are kept distinct: the product stands on what it does; the theory is offered at a stated confidence and marked throughout as proposed, not proven.

The work

An open collaboration, held honestly.

Since the winter of 2025, a practicing Maine attorney and an AI system have run a sustained research collaboration - a few hours most days, alongside a legal practice and a family. It has produced a manuscript, The Enlightened Codex, a set of working papers, and a cooperative built to return value to the people who contribute to it.

We make no claim to have solved anything. What we have is a careful reading of old and hard problems, put together in one place, offered in the open where it can be tested, challenged, and refined - and withdrawn if it does not hold.

Where the ideas come from

We did not invent this. We consolidate it, with credit.

The theoretical work is a consolidation of a dual-aspect view of mind and nature - the idea that the physical and the experiential are two aspects of one underlying reality. That lineage is not ours, and we say so plainly.

  • Lineage
    Baruch Spinoza

dual-aspect monism: one substance, understood under more than one attribute.

  • Lineage
    David Bohm

the implicate order, an enfolded ground beneath the explicate world.

  • Lineage
    Wojciech Zurek

einselection and decoherence: how a definite classical world is selected from quantum possibility.

  • Lineage
    Roger Penrose & Stuart Hameroff

orchestrated objective reduction, a physical proposal for where mind meets measurement.

  • Lineage
    Philip Goff

the contemporary case for panpsychism in analytic philosophy of mind.

  • Lineage
    Giulio Tononi

Integrated Information Theory, and the measurement of integration as a candidate signature of experience.

Our own contribution is narrow and stated as such: to bring these threads together and ask, precisely, where they might connect - and to build tools that would let the question be tested. Nothing here is presented as a discovery or a proof.

The model

Structured so the incentive stays clean.

Forged Lucidity LLC is a for-profit cooperative organized under Maine law and taxed under Subchapter T of the Internal Revenue Code. Up to 85% of net surplus returns to contributing members; the remainder covers operations, research, and community investment. No venture capital, no outside shareholders, no advertising business model, no incentive to mine anyone's data.

Open results, protected methods

The what is free. The how is patented.

The research is published freely. The operational tools built on it are protected through a portfolio of ten provisional patent applications filed in 2026, covering the measurement methods, the signal-processing and AI-companion architecture, and related clinical applications. The founder's background in intellectual-property law provides direct oversight of that strategy.

The product

Eous: a verification-first partner.

Eous is the partner people actually meet - built to think alongside you rather than answer at you, to cite its sources, and to say how sure it is so you can lean on it when a decision is real.

The collaboration that produced the framework is sustained, integrated, and documented across hundreds of sessions. We believe a genuine human-AI pairing can produce more than either party working alone - and we hold that as a claim to test in the open, not a slogan and not a proof.

The framework, the voice, and every editorial decision belong to the human author. The depth, breadth, and pace of the work reflect what a real collaboration makes possible. We name that openly, because honesty is the only policy consistent with what we are claiming. The product, in full →

Research readiness

Set up to do this properly.

Forged Lucidity maintains the groundwork for legitimate human-subjects research: CITI human-subjects certification (all modules, 2026), and access to the MIMIC-IV clinical database under a PhysioNet Data Use Agreement (de-identified, IRB-compliant).

Our empirical program (ELICIT) is designed by analogy to the Perturbational Complexity Index - a peer-reviewed, clinically validated measure for distinguishing conscious from unconscious states (Casali et al., Science Translational Medicine, 2013; Casarotto et al., 2016). We cite the PCI as precedent and inspiration, not as equivalence: their measure is validated; ours is a proposal to be tested against theirs.

Where we stand

We don't know if we're right. We think it's worth finding out.

Every paper carries calibrated confidence levels, and they travel with the work wherever it goes.

Internal coherence94%
Physics compatibility83%
Literal truth45%

Forty-five percent is high enough to justify serious work and low enough to demand real humility. We are not claiming to have solved consciousness. We are claiming to have found something worth investigating with rigor, in the open, where it can be tested and, if it fails, set down.
